Hi everyone,
I’m the CEO at Golden Monarque and at the same time I teach at a Portuguese University on a post-graduation course in Real Estate Management and Valuation. I believe education is fundamental to help us on our day-to-day activities. As so, regardless of the fact of having a solid academic education one should continuing to educate himself thought life. Master or post-graduation courses are excellent ways to do it, but meanwhile, or in case you do not have opportunity to attend one of those, you should not lose the opportunity to educate yourself. A very good alternative is reading.
The problem with reading is always to select the right book. First, let me tell you that, in general terms, there are no right books. The ideal book for each one of us depends on the specific circumstances we are in. That being said, I believe I can recommend books that helped me and that I still use in my job as the CEO of Venture Capital Funds Management Company and as a teacher. As so, maybe reading those books can help you also.
Recommending a book is always a delicate matter due to the subjectivity underlying the recommendation. Sometimes the variety of books / authors is so vast that it creates problems for those who want to make recommendations. One of the problems is that it is impossible to read all the existing books. Therefore, the recommendation should not be seen so much as a comparison but rather in terms of the substance of the recommended book itself
The first area I chose to do a recommendation is RISK ANALYSIS
When recommending a book on the topic of Risk Analysis, some considerations will be made that result from the knowledge derived from reading other books on the same topic. When choosing the book and authors to be recommended, on the topic under analysis, the following aspects were considered:
- depth of analysis
- scope of applicability
- number of practical examples
- clarity and accessibility of language
So, I hope you understand the reasons why I left out authors like Markowitz (specialist in portfolios) or others, because they dealt with specific areas.
Therefore, I leave my recommendation regarding the book on the subject of Risk analysis, which has the particularity of having four volumes.
Name: Market Risk analysis
Autor: Carol Alexander
Editor: John Wiley & Sons Inc
Happy reading!
